Cherbourg Ferry Routes
Two routes are currently operated between the UK and Cherbourg – one from Poole and a second from Portsmouth.
Cherbourg Ferry to Portsmouth
Brittany Ferries operates up to 2 sailings weekly each way between Cherbourg and Portsmouth from November to March, and up to 3 sailings weekly during peak season. The crossing takes 4 to 6 hours for daytime crossings and around 9 hours on average for overnight departures. Ferry tickets start at just over £90 each way including a vehicle.

Cherbourg Ferry to Poole
Up to 9 weekly sailings are operated on the more popular route between Cherbourg and Poole. These are split between Brittany Ferries and Condor Ferries, with an average journey time of 4.5 to 6.5 hours (Condor takes longer as it calls at Guernsey). Prices start at just over £100 each way if you book early enough.

Facilities at Cherbourg Ferry Port
Facilities at Cherbourg Ferry Port include a brasserie-style restaurant, passenger lounge, toilets, baby changing room, vending machines and an ATM. Dogs are permitted on the small grassed area just outside the ferry terminal as long as they’re kept on a lead and are muzzled at all times.
Short-term free parking is available at the port for all vehicles and there’s a dedicated area for caravans and motorhomes. For foot passengers a shuttle service is run daily to connect Cherbourg ferry terminal with the ships and a specialised mini bus is also on-site to transport people with limited mobility.

Getting to Cherbourg
Cherbourg Ferry Port is situated less than a mile north of the town centre and can be accessed easily via the N13. The Port address is Quai de Normandie, Normandy, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, 50100
🚗 By car: The quickest route from the south is via the N13 which will take you directly to the port by car. If travelling along the coast from the east or west use the D901 and follow signs to the ferry terminal after reaching the town.
🚈 By train: Cherbourg train station is 1.5 miles from the terminal and offers direct services to Caen and Rouen. You can also travel to the capital city (Paris) via Caen in just over 3.5 hours.

Brittany Ferries is the sole operator on the Cherbourg-Portsmouth route.
Condor Ferries and Brittany Ferries both operate on the Cherbourg-Poole route.
Check-in at Cherbourg port usually closes 60 minutes before the sailing time for Condor Ferries and 45 minutes for Brittany Ferries. Foot passengers and those travelling with pets should aim to check-in 90 to 120 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
The ferry between Cherbourg and Portsmouth takes 4 to 6 hours during the day and up to 9 hours on overnight sailings.
